Sister Anne

from Rainhill Trials by Dan Amor

/

about

About a nunnery, an alcoholic nun, cats and the seaside.

Amdan gwyryfdy, cathod, y mor, a lleian alcoholig.

lyrics

A beaten up old gate in red cracked paint
Distant lights that flicker out to Sea
Windswept promenades, adorning old postcards
Birdsong braying dogs and bumble bees
We're winding up old clocks and dusting shelves
Edmund stumps up cash to pay the bills
The sisterhood is thriving, with new recruits arriving day by day
In a steady stream - it's a dream

Let Sister Anne draw her conclusions
Just air the vestry mow the lawn
It's the norm, don't let anybody tell you otherwise

Pebbles from the beach on window sills
Sip yesterday's communion wine until
Sunsets quite amazing, the chapel cats are lazing
They've been chasing little squeakers under pews - pay them their dues

Let Sister Anne draw her conclusions
Just air the vestry mow the lawn
It's the norm, don't let anybody tell you otherwise

As the congregation rises
A collective breath is drawn
Coffee mornings, jumble sales
And for some the search goes on
As the voices lift as one
So the lost are slowly drawn
To Edmund's awnings
They're adorning summer lawns

Let Sister Anne cast her aspersions
Just air the vestry mow the lawn
It's the norm, don't let anybody tell you otherwise
Just be wise
